The Meeting Place
The Meeting Place is a unique community facility located in the prestigious suburb of Breakfast Point, Sydney.
The design offers residences a place to come together and have access to eating facilities (barbecues) and wide open spaces. Facilities such as these are becoming a rare concept in new suburban developments.
Sitting gracefully at the edge of the Village Green, The Meeting Place consists of a Community Hall facility, 2 Pavilions and extensive landscaping to the village green to create the centre piece of the Breakfast Point Community.
PBS Building undertook the project on a hybrid design and construct basis with the principal controlling all architectural design, with all the structure and services by PBS Building.
Designed to look like a traditional church the building posed numerous technical challenges.
The 70 degree steeple roof is built entirely of exposed trusses which were all manufactured on site due to their size and to ensure the quality of finished product. The pitch of the roof also meant that the entire steeple had to be fully completed on the ground and then craned into position some 16 metres in the air.
This product was built over a clay capped contamination containment cell which would not be penetrated or disturbed during construction.
