Australian War Memorial
The Eastern Precinct Development at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra is the next phase of the Memorial’s Site Development Plan.
The project includes a new formal Memorial Courtyard and National Services Memorial, much improved and safer coach and car parking, and the replacement of the existing café with an accessible facility that will better reflect the significance of the site.
The National Services Memorial will comprise a bronze water feature set on a natural sandstone and black granite base. The sandstone will also be used to pave the expansive forecourt area.
The project also includes a 200 space in ground car park and construction and fitout of a new commercial café, with views down Anzac Parade to Parliament House. During the project the War Memorial will remain fully operational.
The Eastern Precinct Development aims to reinforce and rejuvenate the character of the open natural landscape in contrast to the more formal Western Precinct. The project will improve public access and safety, particularly for groups arriving by coach and the mobility impaired.
